Quiet times

Things have been pretty quiet in these parts ... I've been waiting to think of something I could blog about, but so far nothing thrilling has hit me. It's just work, home, looking after small boy. Which suits me fine.
Shaun has started a new job though - it's at Fairfax. I know he wouldn't want me to write anything about it on my blog, so there goes that idea.
Since my two comptitions wins in the space of a week there's been nothing else ... I keep just expecting to win stuff now! My mum, in her excitement about my two wins, has been entering anything and everything too. Perhaps she'll be the next winner in the family?
E has just been up to his usual 3yo angel/devil caper.
See? Very quiet.

When good blogs turn bad

I'm interested in blogs. But I had a small taste of their sinister side quite recently and it disturbed me. I won't mention its name but there is a relatively well known blog written by various people at my work. There's been much written about it in the Media section of The Australian, on Crikey and various other places.
Essentially it's a gossip portal for all the chicks (I am assuming it's mostly chicks posting) at the media organisation I work for.
I made the mistake of visiting it.
Never again.
Oh my goodness, the sheer vitriol that dripped from every sentence. The nastiness of the anonymous mentions ... that so-and-so is sleeping with so-and-so, that such-and-such is no good at their job, that someone-or-other picks their nose. I'M SERIOUS.
For a minute or two I was glued to it, I suspect (me being paranoid me) I was scanning the words for any mention that may pertain to me.
The feeling it left in my stomach was awful. This sort of stuff is crippling when you're on the receiving end of it - and I want no part of it.
I won't be visiting that site ever again.

Winner

A few weeks ago, inspired by a colleague who'd won a prize, I decided I would actually make the effort to enter competitions when I came across them. So for the past month or so I've done just that. Lo and behold, last week I returned home from work to find a GPS navigator for the car waiting for me. And yesterday I won a laptop. Yes, a laptop.
Note to self: buy Lotto ticket!

A Day At The Zoo

In lieu of a birthday party we took the 3yo to the zoo today. His first trip there. It went well and he's sufficiently worn out to be in bed now (it's 6.30pm).

He came face to face with the cutest little fox thingy:

The meerkats were as sweet as you'd expect:

I even got him to pose (briefly) in front of the fish:

The tallest exhibit was probably the most impressive:

I wonder if he'll remember anything of today?
